Colour : urban design limited were presented with an award by Wayne Hemingway for Best External Learning Environment for Moorside Community Primary School, Newcastle upon Tyne, at the British Council for School Environments Industry Awards 2009.

Ian Fordham, deputy chief executive of the BCSE, said: "There was - rightly - robust debate amongst the judging panel. The result is a short list which can act as a gold standard reference point for anybody involved in the school design and construction process. Congratulations to all the winners."

Jon Eachus said, “We have always been passionate about creating rich outdoor learning environments for young people that are full of stimuli, contexts for play, opportunities for exploration, plenty of real experiences and contact with the natural world. It is great to see that the values of outdoor play and of stimulating external environments are now being seen as crucial in great school design. We are delighted that our approach and ethos has been applauded by the BCSE judges. We would also like to thank June Foster for being such a bold and innovative client and the children at Moorside School whose delight in and use of what we have created has been inspiring."

June Foster, Head Teacher at Moorside said "I searched for a company who could translate our thoughts and ideas into reality. Having almost given up, I found Peter Owens of colour : urban design limited who responded immediately. As a company you listened to what we wanted and didn’t try to give us what you thought we wanted. Colour was able to take our thinking forward and expand on our ideas. My enthusiasm for this project was matched by Jon who worked with pupils and didn’t patronise them. Everyone in school is delighted with the outcome."
