Marsh Academy

colour: urban design ltd is currently developing master plan proposals for the redevelopment of Marsh Academy in New Romney, Kent.

This fascinating site is located close to the south coast and includes an existing framework of fine mature trees and an existing watercourse which supports a variety of species including potential greater crested newts, reptiles and water voles.

Working closely with Carillion Building and Seymour Harris Architects our masterplan looks to capitalise on these existing features, whilst also creating an attractive and stimulating school environment, with a positive image and better links to the site context and local community.

An "Enterprise square", "Business Lounge", performance space, art garden and external horticulture and construction areas provide external space for the academy's business-specialist curriculum and also flexible spaces which could be used for community events.

A new MUGA and fitness trail improve the sports facilities of the academy and also the community leisure centre which is also situated on the site.

Proposals are due to be submitted for planning in summer this year, with works starting on site later on in 2009.
